Blows dry the hair and keep the rollers in for as long as possible; take the curlers out carefully and either brush your hair to remove roller marks or tease the locks out with your fingers.

Use two or three large thick French braids to get thick curls and braid your hair tightly otherwise you will have more of a wave than a curl. Use smaller braids for tight crimped curls or 'afro' hairstyles. The nice thing about using braids is that you can sleep with them in, simply comb through each curl with your fingers in the morning. Don't use a brush on braided hair as it may go frizzy rather than curly.

Slide the iron to the end of the hair and curl the hair in the direction you want the curl in, for example curve it inwards if you want an inward curl and outwards if you want an outwards curl. Curl each strand right up to the root and hold it there for 10 seconds. Slowly start to uncurl the hair and when you reach the end open the curling irons to ease the hair out. Keep repeating this process on all the hair you want curled. Finish by use your fingers to tousle the hair, apply hairspray if desired.
